Chers ami(e)s, allié(é)s et collègues,

Les évènements récents concernant George Floyd, Breonna Taylor et la situa

tion des afro-américains aux États-Unis, au Canada et dans le monde a déclenché une énorme vague de support et de réactions dépassant toutes frontières. Parler de racisme, de privilège et d’inclusion est une conversation difficile, mais nécessaire. Ces derniers jours, j’ai eu de la difficulté à mettre des mots sur ce que je ressens, sur l’apathie et le sentiment d’impuissance qui m’entoure, même si je sens qu’il est important d’adresser le sujet. Je me suis alors posé la question : ai-je la légitimité et les connaissances nécessaires pour écrire ouvertement à propos de ces évènements?

Le fait de ne pas trouver les mots ou de sentir que je n’ai pas les connaissances nécessaire

s n’enlève pas de la légitimité aux émotions et au besoin de les exprimer. Je pense que nous somme plusieurs dans la même situation. Nous avons eu l’idée avec mon frère Esteban, étudiant en musique et écrivain à ses heures, de créer un « recueil d’idées ». L’objectif est de donner une plateforme pour permettre aux gens d’exprimer leurs émotions de façon plus spontanée et artistique.

Le « recueil d’idées » consisterait à recueillir des courts textes, des poèmes ou du slam sur les circonstances actuelles ou l’état d’esprit qui en résulte. Ces textes seraient par la suite publiés sous forme de recueil sur le site web du Collectif ainsi que sur les réseaux sociaux accompagnés d’un court texte qui explique l’objectif du projet.

Le Collectif a pour mission de promouvoir la diversité et l’inclusion au sein de la profession juridique au travers de plusieurs plateformes, notamment par le biais des médias sociaux et d’un blogue étudiant. Par conséquent, nous voulons, chers lecteurs et lectrices, que vos textes créatifs, vos poèmes et autres créations littéraires

nous permettent de pousser plus loin notre réflexion.

Dear friends, allies and colleagues,

The recent events concerning George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the situation of African Americans in the United States, Canada, and around the world have sparked a huge wave of support and reactions across borders. Talking about racism, privilege, and inclusion is a difficult but necessary conversation. For the past few days, I have struggled with the feeling of helplessness that surrounds us. While believing that it is important to address the subject, I stumbled on how to put into words. So, I asked myself the question: do I have the legitimacy and the knowledge to write openly about this issue?

While I am aware that I do not have the all the knowledge or expertise to write a cohesive argument on the issue, I believe that it does not detract from the legitimacy to express my feelings and solidarity. I think there are many of us that feel the urge to express our thoughts and emotions more freely. Therefore, in collaboration with my brother Esteban, music student and aspiring writer, we have put forward an initiative to create a "collection of ideas". The goal is to provide a platform for people to express their ideas, hopes, and emotions in a more spontaneous and artistic way.

The "collection of ideas" would consist of short texts, poems, or slam regarding current events or the resulting state of mind. These texts would then be published, accompanied by a short text explaining the meaning behind the project, as a collection on the Collective’s website as well as on social media.

The Collectif droit et diversité (University of Ottawa, civil law section) invites you to contribute to the project. The Collectif’s mission is to promote diversity and inclusion within the legal field through several platforms including social media and a student blog.
